Google Confirms Real-Time Monitoring
Friday September 23, 2016 Google confirms the Penguin 4 launch. This update has several features, which are extremely important to be aware of when building or managing a website.
Quote directly from Google:
"Penguin is now real-time. Historically, the list of sites affected by Penguin was periodically refreshed at the same time. Once a webmaster considerably improved their site and its presence on the internet, many of Google's algorithms would take that into consideration very fast, but others, like Penguin, needed to be refreshed. With this change, Penguin's data is refreshed in real time, so changes will be visible much faster."
Penguin 4.0 remains the last update in history. No other updates will continue after this, apparently. There are some important points to note about Penguin 4.0 - They are:
- The Google Penguin signal is now recalculated immediately upon crawl by Google.
- Penguin affects the entire website, but also on all domain levels i.e. pages, posts, folders.
- Problems may be more challenging to diagnose due to multiple levels of a domain.
- Google Penguin is more granular. This means that even if a single page or post is aggressively SEO'ed, the filter gets tripped.
